    Hintergrund
The serine-threonine protein kinase encoded by the AKT1 gene is catalytically inactive in serum-starved primary and immortalized fibroblasts. AKT1 and the related AKT2 are activated by platelet-derived growth factor. The activation is rapid and specific, and it is abrogated by mutations in the pleckstrin homology domain of AKT1. It was shown that the activation occurs through phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase. In the developing nervous system AKT is a critical mediator of growth factor-induced neuronal survival. Survival factors can suppress apoptosis in a transcription-independent manner by activating the serine/threonine kinase AKT1, which then phosphorylates and inactivates components of the apoptotic machinery. Mutations in this gene have been associated with the Proteus syndrome. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.,AKT,CWS6,PKB,PKB-ALPHA,PRKBA,RAC,RAC-ALPHA,AKT1,Epigenetics & Nuclear Signaling,Translation Control,Regulation of eIF4 and p70 S6 Kinase,Cancer,Signal Transduction,G protein signaling,Kinase,Serine/threonine kinases,PI3K-Akt Signaling Pathway,mTOR Signaling Pathway,Protein Kinase C Signaling Pathway,ErbB-HER Signaling Pathway,Cell Biology & Developmental Biology,Apoptosis,Mitochondrial Control of Apoptosis,Inhibition of Apoptosis,Cell Cycle,G1/S Checkpoint,Cell Adhesion,Microtubules,TGF-b-Smad Signaling Pathway,ESC Pluripotency and Differentiation,Endocrine & Metabolism,AMPK Signaling Pathway,Insulin Receptor Signaling Pathway,Warburg Effect,Immunology & Inflammation,B Cell Receptor Signaling Pathway,T Cell Receptor Signaling Pathway,IL-6 Receptor Signaling Pathway,NF-kB Signaling Pathway,Neuroscience,Neurodegenerative Diseases,Amyloid Plaque and Neurofibrillary Tangle Formation in Alzheimer's Disease,Cardiovascular,Angiogenesis,Protein phosphorylation,AKT1
