TPP1 (Tripeptidyl peptidase I) is a lysosomal serine protease which cleaves N-terminal tripeptides from substrates. It requires substrates with an unsubstituted N-terminus. TPP1 may act as a non-specific lysosomal peptidase generating tripeptides from the breakdown products produced by lysosomal proteinases. Mutations in this gene result in late-infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis.Synonyms: Cell growth-inhibiting gene 1 protein, GIG1, LPIC, Lysosomal pepstatin-insensitive protease, TPP-1, TPP-I, Tripeptidyl aminopeptidase
