Hintergrund
Serpins are a group of proteins with similar structures that have been shown to inhibit proteases. Many serpins, like PI8 inhibit chymotrypsin - like serine proteases (serine protease inhibitors). Human proteinase inhibitor 8 (PI8) is a widely expressed 45- kDa ovalbumin type serpin. PI8 forms a complex with Furin, a ubiquitous mammalian endoproteinase in order to inhibit it. PI8 is also a potent inhibitor of bacillus subtilis, a Gram and catalase positive bacteria commonly found in soil.Synonyms: CAP-2, CAP2, Cytoplasmic antiproteinase 2, PI-8, PI8, Peptidase inhibitor 8, Serpin B8, clade B (ovalbumin) member 8, serpin peptidase inhibitor
