    Hintergrund
Sp1 is found in its potential to simultaneously regulate a wide array of genes through changes in its phosphorylation state. Changes in phosphorylation often results in functional changes to Sp1 such as altered DNA binding and/or promoter activation. A number of enzymes act on Sp1, including DNA-PK, protein phosphatases, casein kinase II, ERK and cyclin-dependent kinase. A strong relationship exists between Sp1 phosphorylation state and growth at both the organ and cellular level, for this reason Sp1 has been implicated in oncogenesis.
