- Hintergrund
- Melatonin receptor 1B, also known as MTNR1B, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MTNR1B gene. This gene encodes the MT2 protein, one of two high-affinity forms of a receptor for melatonin, the primary hormone secreted by the pineal gland. Several studies have identified MTNR1B receptor mutations that are associated with increased average blood sugar level and around a 20 percent elevated risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
