Hintergrund
Cortisol Binding Globulin, Human (CBG, Transcortin, Corticosteroid Binding Globulin) is a serum glycoprotein, belonging to the serpin family and synthesized in the liver. It is the major transport protein for glucorticoids and progestins in the blood of most vertebrates. The CBG gene localizes to a chromosomal region containing several closely related serine protease inhibitors which may have evolved by duplication events. CBG is produced by the liver. It is regulated by estrogens and is therefore elevated in pregnant women. It binds a number of hormones including Cortisol, Aldosterone and Progesterone.Synonyms: Corticosteroid-binding globulin, Serpin A6, Transcortin
