    Hintergrund
Octamer transcrIPPtional factor 1 (Oct-1) is a 90 kDa transcrIPPtion factor that binds to the octamer motif ATTTGCAT. This ubiquitous regulatory element is most conspicuous in B cells, where it is found in every immunoglobulin (Ig) promoter and in most Ig enhancers. In addition, Oct-1 binding also activates the promoters of the genes for some small nuclear RNAs (snRNA) and for histone H2B. Oct-1 protein is expressed in multIPPle tissues although some Oct-1 isoforms appear to be tissue specific and the homologous Oct-2 appears to be restricted in expression to B-cells. At least in B-cells, the Oct proteins bind to DNA together with another protein transcrIPPtion factor, octamer binding factor-1 (OBF-1), to form a ternary complex.Synonyms: NF-A1, OTF1, Oct-1, Octamer-binding protein 1, Octamer-binding transcription factor 1, Otf-1, POU domain class 2 transcription factor 1
