OSBPL5 encodes a member of the oxysterol-binding protein (OSBP) family, a group of intracellular lipid receptors that play a key role in the maintenance of cholesterol balance in the body.

imprinting status of four cattle genes (Tssc4 (zeige TSSC4 Proteine),Nap1l4 (zeige NAP1L4 Proteine), Phlda2 (zeige PHLDA2 Proteine) and Osbpl5) in seven types of tissues, were assessed in cattle.
ORP5/8 are endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane proteins implicated in lipid trafficking that localize to ER-plasma membrane (PM) contacts and maintain membrane homeostasis. Here the authors show that PtdIns(4,5)P 2 plays a critical role in the targeting and function of ORP5/8 at the PM.
mammalian ORP5 and ORP8 (zeige OSBPL8 Proteine) proteins localize to ER-mitochondrial MCS (zeige SMCP Proteine), in addition to ER-PM contact sites.
Results show that OSBPL5 and CALU (zeige CALU Proteine) were expressed at higher levels in the lung tissues of metastasis-positive cases than that in the metastasis-negative cases suggesting they can promote invasiveness of lung cancer cells.
ORP5 and ORP8 (zeige OSBPL8 Proteine) could mediate PI4P/phosphatidylserine (PS) countertransport between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the plasma membrane (PM), thus delivering PI4P to the ER-localized PI4P phosphatase Sac1 (zeige SACM1L Proteine) for degradation and PS from the ER to the PM.
ORP5 may cooperate with NPC1 (zeige NPC1 Proteine) to mediate the exit of cholesterol from endosomes/lysosomes.
OBPH1/Obph1 gene is imprinted, with preferential expression from the maternal allele in human and mouse.
Telomeric NAP1L4 (zeige NAP1L4 Proteine) and OSBPL5 of the KCNQ1 (zeige KCNQ1 Proteine) cluster, and the DECORIN (zeige DCN Proteine) gene are not imprinted in human trophoblast stem cells.
OSBPL5 is relatd to invasion and poor prognosis in pancreatic cancer.
OSBP (zeige OSBP Proteine) regulates hepatic TG metabolism and suggest the involvement of OSBP (zeige OSBP Proteine) in the insulin (zeige INS Proteine) signaling pathways that control hepatic lipogenesis.
This gene encodes a member of the oxysterol-binding protein (OSBP) family, a group of intracellular lipid receptors that play a key role in the maintenance of cholesterol balance in the body. Most members contain an N-terminal pleckstrin homology domain and a highly conserved C-terminal OSBP-like sterol-binding domain. This gene has been shown to be imprinted, with preferential expression from the maternal allele only in placenta. Transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
