    Hintergrund
    Bif is a member of the endophilin B protein family and may be an important component of the mitochondrial pathway for apoptosis, as a novel Bax/Bak activator. The loss of this proapoptotic molecule may contribute to tumorigenesis. Endophilins have been proposed to play roles in membrane trafficking reactions through interactions with endocytic protein via physical or chemical modifications of the membrane bilayer, particularly in presynaptic vesicle trafficking at nerve terminals. Bif (Endophilin B1), like endophilins A, binds to palmitoyl CoA and exhibits lysophosphatidic acid acyl transferase activity.Synonyms: BIF1, Bax-interacting factor 1, Bif-1, KIAA0491, SH3 domain-containing GRB2-like protein B1, SH3GLB1
