Hintergrund: Background: Myeloid cell leukemia sequence 1 (MCL1) is involved in the regulation of apoptosis versus cell survival, and in the maintenance of viability but not of proliferation. MCL1 mediates its effects by interactions with a number of other regulators of apoptosis. Two transcripts from the MCL1 gene have been identified. Isoform 1 enhances cell survival, while isoforms 2 promotes apoptosis.
