- Background: BRCA1-interacting protein 1 (BRIP1) is a RecQ DNA helicase that associates with BRCA1 and functions in double-strand break repair and the maintenance of chromosomal stability. BRIP1 has been found to be deficient in Fanconi anemia (FA), a chromosomal instability syndrome associated with a strong predisposition to cancer.
