Background: ACTH is a polypeptide hormone secreted by anterior pituitary cells. ACTH effects adrenal gland to product of cortisol and it also mediates bone formation and osteoblast survival. ACTH antibody is mainly used for functional classification of pituitary tumors and differential diagnosis of primary and metastatic pituitary tumors. Studies have shown that abnormal ACTH products are often related to lung small cell carcinoma, so it can be used to detect the distribution of hormone cells in some neuroendocrine tumors, such as pheochromocytoma and carcinoid.
