    Hintergrund

CD195/CCR5, is a seven transmembrane receptor that is a member of the ß-chemokine receptor family. CCR5 is expressed by T cells and macrophages, and is one of the two major co- receptors for macrophage-tropic virus, including HIV, to enter host cells. Defective alleles of this gene have been associated with resistance to HIV infection, and early infection with HIV-1 is dominated by CCR5-tropic viruses. The ligands of the CCR5 receptor include MCP-2, MIP-1a, MIP-1ß, and RANTES. CCR5 is phosphorylated at specific sites by protein kinase C and GPCR kinase, and data show that two distinct forms of CCR5 protein, 62 and 42 kDa, are present in lymphocytic cells. CCR5 expression was also detected in a promyeloblastic cell line, suggesting that this protein may play a role in granulocyte lineage proliferation and differentiation.Synonyms: C-C CKR-5, C-C chemokine receptor type 5, CC-CKR-5, CCR-5, CHEMR13, CMKBR5, HIV-1 fusion coreceptor
