Target
BAFF (TNFSF13B)
(Tumor Necrosis Factor (Ligand) Superfamily, Member 13b (TNFSF13B))
BAFF (for B-cell activating factor belonging to the TNF family), a new member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) family was simultaneously identified by four different laboratories and named BAFF, TALL-1, THANK, zTNF4. It is abundantly expressed in monocytes and macrophages, upregulated by interferon gamma. Endogenous BAFF is processed intracellularly by a protease of the furin family of proprotein convertases. Secreted BAFF acts as a potent B cell growth factor. Recently, two receptors for BAFF have been identified and termed as BCMA and TACI.
