- COL5A1, EDSC, EDSCL1, FMDMF, collagen alpha-1(V) chain, collagen, type V, alpha 1,Type V collagen is a member of group I collagen (fibrillar forming collagen). It is a minor connective tissue component of nearly ubiquitous distribution. Type V collagen binds to DNA, heparan sulfate, thrombospondin, heparin, and insulin.,COL5A1,Type V collagen is a minor component of the connective tissue, although it is present in many different types of connective tissue. Patients with defects in the type V collagen (Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) have weakend connective tissue characterized by hyperstrechable joints and fragile, easily bruisable skin.
