Hintergrund
-
C-Myb is a transcription factor that plays a critical role in the regulation of gene expression during the development and maintenance of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. In zebrafish, c-Myb is essential for the formation of definitive blood cells and is widely used as a marker of early hematopoiesis.
During zebrafish embryogenesis, c-Myb is expressed in the dorsal aorta, where hematopoietic stem cells first emerge, as well as in the developing thymus and other hematopoietic tissues. It regulates the expression of genes involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. Loss of c-Myb function leads to defects in blood cell development, particularly in the production of lymphoid and myeloid lineages.
Due to its conserved function in vertebrate hematopoiesis, zebrafish c-Myb is commonly used in research focused on blood development, leukemia, stem cell biology, and gene regulation. Its accessibility in zebrafish models allows for detailed in vivo studies of hematopoietic disorders and drug screening applications.
