Hintergrund: Background: CAP-D2 is a subunit of the heteropentameric condensin I complex. Condensin participates in the condensation of chromosomes during cell division by facilitating positive DNA supercoiling and knotting by topoisomerase I and II and proper segregation of sister chromatids. In the condensin complex CAP-D2 may be important for targeting condensin to mitotic chromosomes as well as metaphase alignment of sister chromatids.
