Hintergrund
Interferon-induced protein with tetratricopeptide repeats 2 (IFIT2) is one of four related human (ISG56/IFIT1, ISG54/IFIT2, ISG60/IFIT3, ISG58/IFIT5) and three related mouse proteins (Ifit1, Ifit2, Ifit3) characterized by tetratricopeptide motifs. IFIT2 interacts with eukaryotic initiation factor 3 (eIF3)e and eIF3c to inhibit translation. IFIT2 interacts with some AU-rich RNA regions, which seems to be associated with antiviral activity. IFIT2 possesses antiviral activity against corona virus and West Nile virus by acting on the capped viral mRNA and protects from lethal vesicular stomatitis virus neuropathogenesis. Besides the antiviral activity, IFIT2 expression was associated with induction of apoptosis. IFIT2 may alter proinflammatory cytokine response and therefore be involved in the development of septic shock.
