Synonyms: Gamma-aminobutyric acid type B receptor subunit 2 (GABA-B receptor 2) (GABA-B-R2) (GABA-BR2) (GABABR2) (Gb2) (G-protein coupled receptor 51) (HG20)
Target Description: Gamma-aminobutyric acid type B receptor subunit 2 or GABA BR2 is encoded by the gene GABBR2. GABA BR2 is a subunit of the G-protein coupled receptor for the neurotransmitter GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid). It will inhibit neuronal activity through G protein-coupled second-messenger systems, which regulate the release of neurotransmitters and the activity of ion channels and adenylyl cyclase. GABA BR2 is highly expressed in brain, especially in cerebral cortex, thalamus, hippocampus at the cell junction, synapse, the postsynaptic cell membrane and cytoplasmic vesicle membrane. It is weakly expressed in heart, testis and skeletal muscle. Diseases associated with GABBR2 include Neurodevelopmental Disorder With Poor Language And Loss Of Hand Skills, Rett syndrome- and Early Infantile Epileptic Encephalopathy 59.
