Specific for eosinophil major basic protein irrespective of the stages of eosinophil activation and can be regarded as an eosinophil marker. The antibody will recognize the 23.8 kDa secreted pro-form of MBP (Pregnancy associated MBP) and the 13.8 kDa mature form found in the matrix of the eosinophil large specific granule. Does not cross-react with horse, mouse or rat MBP.

Hintergrund
PRG2 is a cytotoxin and helminthotoxin. It also induces noncytolytic histamine release from human basophils and is involved in antiparasitic defense mechanisms and immune hypersensitivity reactions. The proform acts as a proteinase inhibitor, reducing the activity of PAPPA. In pregnancy serum, the proform exists as a disulfide-linked 2:2 heterotetramer with PAPPA, as a disulfide-linked 2:2 heterotetramer with AGT, and as a complex (probably a 2:2:2 heterohexamer) with AGT and C3dg.Synonyms: BMPG, Bone marrow proteoglycan, EMBP, Eosinophil granule major basic protein, PRG2, Pregnancy-associated major basic protein
