Exon 11 inclusion isoform of ABLIM1 may have a muscle-specific function, and its abnormal splicing could be related to muscle symptoms of myotonic dystrophy type 1.
SNP rs727532 in ABLIM1 (10q25) had significant association in the multivariate test & strong associations with novelty seeking, harm avoidance, reward dependence and alcohol dependence in the COGA sample.
ABLIM1 is associated with the regulation of preosteoclast motility via the PI3K/Akt/Rac1 pathway during RANKL-mediated osteoclastogenesis.
these results make Ablim1 a candidate for controlling aspects of left-right identity and patterning.
AbLIM-L mutant mice exhibit no apparent morphological or functional defects in photoreceptors and inner retinal neurons. Retinofugal projections and synaptic maturation also appear normal; abLIM-M is likely the isoform related to axon guidance.
This gene encodes a cytoskeletal LIM protein that binds to actin filaments via a domain that is homologous to erythrocyte dematin. LIM domains, found in over 60 proteins, play key roles in the regulation of developmental pathways. LIM domains also function as protein-binding interfaces, mediating specific protein-protein interactions. The protein encoded by this gene could mediate such interactions between actin filaments and cytoplasmic targets. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
