Beschreibung The FAS ligand (FASL, CD95), a member of the tumour necrosisfactor family, induces apoptosis in FAS-bearing cells. FASL is a type II membrane receptor with a soluble form that can be released into the extracellular fluid by proteolytic processing. Northern hybridisation revealed that Fas ligand is expressed in activated splenocytes and thymocytes, consistent with its involvement in T cell-mediated cytotoxicity and in several non lymphoid tissues, such as testis.
