Hemagglutinin refers to a substance that causes red blood cells to agglutinate. This process is called hemagglutination. Examples include antibodies, blood group antigens, autoimmune factors, and lectins. Bacteria, viruses, and other parasites can be the source of blood agglutinins as well.
