Hintergrund

Background: Occludin is an enzyme (EC 1.6) that oxidizes NADH. Predicted to enable protein domain specific binding activity. Involved in negative regulation of gene expression and tight junction organization. Located in several cellular components, including apical plasma membrane, apicolateral plasma membrane, and bicellular tight junction. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system, brain, genitourinary system, respiratory system, and sensory organ. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Crohn's disease and pseudo-TORCH syndrome 1. Orthologous to human OCLN (occludin).
