Hintergrund: Background: WNK3 (With No Lysine 3) is a member of the WNK family of serine-threonine kinases which includes WNK1, WNK2, WNK3, and WNK4. The WNK family of kinases has been observed to play a role in several cellular processes which include ion balance, signal transduction, survival, proliferation and organ development. WNK3 appears to play a role in NaCl, water, and blood pressure homeostasis but has properties distinct from the other WNK family members. WNK3 is expressed throughout the nephron, particularly at intercellular junctions, and its kinase activity has been shown to regulate the activity of ion transporters such as the Na-K-2Cl and Na-Cl co-transporters.
