Background: Thyroid receptor interacting protein 6 (TRIP6) was identified as a protein that interacts with the thyroid receptor. TRIP6 is a LIM domain-containing protein and is in the same family as the adhesion plaque protein, zyxin and lipoma preferred partner (LPP). TRIP6 has been shown to localize to focal adhesion plaques as well as to the nucleus where it can act as a co-activator of transcription. Thus, it has been implicated as playing a role in cytoskeletal organization and the relay of cell signals from focal adhesion plaques to the nucleus. Alternative names for TRIP6 include OPA-interacting protein 1, OIP1, Zyxin-related protein 1 ZRP-1, MGC3837, MGC4423, MGC10556, MGC10558, and MGC29959.
