These antagonist proteins are termed agouti (or agouti signaling protein, ASP) and agouti-related protein (AGRP) 1.All five melanocortin receptors bind their agonists (the melanocortins) and their endogenous antagonists (agouti/ASP and AGRP) with differing affinities.
