Hintergrund

Bassoon, a 420 kDa protein, is localized at presynaptic nerve terminals and appears to play a role in the structural and functional organization of the synaptic vesicle cycle. Bassoon is predicted to contain two double-zinc fingers, three coiled-coil regions, and two polyglutamine domains. The C-terminal regions of the polyglutamine domains are of interest since abnormal amplification of this region in some human proteins, such as Huntingtin, can cause late-onset neurodegeneration.
