  5. Data suggest hepcidin is the master regulator of systemic iron homeostasis; hepcidin levels are suppressed when erythropoiesis is stimulated; the erythroid-derived hormone erythroferrone appears to be a convincing candidate for link between increased erythropoiesis and hepcidin suppression. [REVIEW]

  6. Data suggest that proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-1beta (IL1B (zeige IL1B Antikörper)) up-regulates hepcidin expression in hepatocytes; inflammation induces IL1B (zeige IL1B Antikörper) production in Kupffer cells and hepatocytes; IL1B (zeige IL1B Antikörper) up-regulates CEBPD (CCAAT/enhancer binding protein delta (zeige CEBPD Antikörper)) expression in hepatocytes; up-regulation of CEBPD (zeige CEBPD Antikörper) expression up-regulates hepcidin transcription.

Mouse (Murine) Hepcidin Antimicrobial Peptide (HAMP) Interaktionspartner

  1. Endogenous hepcidin and its agonist mediate resistance to selected infections by clearing non-transferrin (zeige Tf Antikörper)-bound iron.

  2. The data demonstrate that endothelial cells are the predominant source of BMP6 (zeige BMP6 Antikörper) in the liver and support a model in which endothelial cells BMP6 (zeige BMP6 Antikörper) has paracrine actions on hepatocyte hemojuvelin (zeige HFE2 Antikörper) to regulate hepcidin transcription and maintain systemic iron homeostasis.

  3. Smad1 (zeige SMAD1 Antikörper) and Smad5 (zeige SMAD5 Antikörper) have overlapping functions to govern hepcidin transcription. Moreover, erythropoietin (zeige EPO Antikörper) and erythroferrone target Smad1 (zeige SMAD1 Antikörper)/5 signaling and require Smad1 (zeige SMAD1 Antikörper)/5 to suppress hepcidin expression.

  4. Genetic inactivation of hepatic angiocrine Bmp2 (zeige BMP2 Antikörper) signaling in Stab2 (zeige STAB2 Antikörper)-Cre mice caused massive iron overload in the liver and increased serum iron levels and iron deposition in several organs similar to classic hereditary hemochromatosis (zeige HFE Antikörper); these changes were mediated by decreased hepatic expression of hepcidin, a key regulator of iron homeostasis.

  5. These studies indicate that drug-like minihepcidins have a potential as future therapeutics for untransfused beta-thalassemia and polycythemia vera (zeige IGF2BP3 Antikörper).

  6. the function of matriptase-2 (zeige TMPRSS6 Antikörper) is dominant over that of ERFE and is essential in facilitating hepcidin suppression by attenuating the BMP-SMAD (zeige SMAD1 Antikörper) signaling.

  7. hepcidin induction by endoplasmic reticulum stress involves the central SMAD1 (zeige SMAD1 Antikörper)/5/8 pathway

  8. Increased hepcidin in transferrin (zeige Tf Antikörper)-treated thalassemic mice correlates with increased liver BMP2 (zeige BMP2 Antikörper) expression and decreased hepatocyte ERK (zeige EPHB2 Antikörper) activation.

Hepcidin (HAMP) Antigen-Profil

Beschreibung des Gens

The product encoded by this gene is involved in the maintenance of iron homeostasis, and it is necessary for the regulation of iron storage in macrophages, and for intestinal iron absorption. The preproprotein is post-translationally cleaved into mature peptides of 20, 22 and 25 amino acids, and these active peptides are rich in cysteines, which form intramolecular bonds that stabilize their beta-sheet structures. These peptides exhibit antimicrobial activity. Mutations in this gene cause hemochromatosis type 2B, also known as juvenile hemochromatosis, a disease caused by severe iron overload that results in cardiomyopathy, cirrhosis, and endocrine failure.
