CYBB deficiency is one of five described biochemical defects associated with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD). In this disorder, there is decreased activity of phagocyte NADPH oxidase\; neutrophils are able to phagocytize bacteria but cannot kill them in the phagocytic vacuoles.
