Phenylalanyl-tRNA synthetase 2, mitochondrial (PheRS), also known as FARS2, belongs to the class II aminoacyl- tRNA synthetase family. FARS2 is a mitochondrial matrix protein. Functioning as a monomer, FARS2 catalyzes the ATP-dependent conversion of L-phenylalanine and tRNA (Phe) to L-phenlalanyltRNA (Phe), an event that is crucial for proper translation and protein expression. Recombinant human FARS2 protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.
