Reacts with Galectin-3, a 30 kDa protein, a member of a newly defined family of β-galactoside-binding animal lectins. It has been previously referred to as IgE-binding protein (εBP) and carbohydrate-binding protein 35 (CBP35). It is expressed on many tissues and cell types. Galectin-3 can be found in the nucleus and/or cytoplasm, on the cell surface and in the extra cellular matrix. Its function has been found to be diverse. It has been reported to be markedly elevated in the nucleus of proliferating cells, suggesting that Galectin-3 may play a role in cell growth regulation. Studies of Galectin-3 on the cell surface have shown it to be a non-integrin, laminin-binding protein, suggesting its role in cell adhesion to basement membranes. Monoclonal antibody B2C10 is suitable for immunohistochemical staining of parafin-embedded tissue sections. Profile of permeabilized peripheral blood monocytes analyzed by flow cytometry. Second step staining with Cat. No. 555988.
