PGP9.5/UCH-L1 is a member of a gene family whose products hydrolyze small C-terminal adducts of ubiquitin to generate the ubiquitin monomer. PGP9.5 is a component of the ubiquitin system, which has a fundamental role in regulating various biological activities. PGP9.5 gene encodes two opposing enzymatic activities that affect alpha-synuclein degradation and Parkinson's disease susceptibility. Recombinant PGP9.5 protein was expressed in E.coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques. Synonyms: UCHL1, PGP9.5, 1-223aa , UCH-L1, EC 3.4.19.12, Ubiquitin thioesterase L1, Neuron cytoplasmic protein 9.5, PGP 9.5, PGP9.5, Ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase isozyme L1, Ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal esterase L1 Gracile axonal dystrophy, Neuron cytoplasmic protein 9.5, Park 5, Parkinson Disease 5, PGP95, UCH L1, Protein gene product 9.5, Ubiquitin C terminal esterase L1, Ubiquitin C terminal hydrolase (neuron specific), Ubiquitin carboxyl terminal esterase L1, Ubiquitin carboxyl terminal hydrolase isozyme L1, Ubiquitin thiolesterase, Ubiquitin thiolesterase L1.
