Beschreibung Calcitonin is a 32 amino acid peptide hormone synthesized by the parafollicular cells ofthe thyroid. It causes a rapid, but short lived, reduction in serum calcium and phosphateby promoting the incorporation of those ions in the bones. This effect is opposite to thatof parathyroid hormone. Staining for calcitonin may be used for the identification of aspectrum of C cell proliferative abnormalities ranging from C cell hyperplasia to invasivetumors. Staining for calcitonin in medullary carcinoma of the thyroid produces a finegranular pattern in the cytoplasm. Amyloid deposits within the tumor may also exhibitvarying degrees of calcitonin activity. Applikationshinweise ELISA and Western Blot: Predicted molecular weight 15 kDa. Can be paired for ELISA withMouse monoclonal [38F11] to Procalcitonin andMouse monoclonal [13B9] to Calcitonin. Can be used for theimmunodetection of both PCT and free calcitonin using clone 13B9. Optimal dilutionsand concentrations should be determined by the end user.
