Beschreibung: IkappaB kinase beta (IKKbeta) is a component of a multiprotein kinase complex thatregulates the activity of the transcription factor NF-kappaB. Activation of theIKK complex via upstream stimuli leads to phosphorylation anddegradation of NF-kappaB bound IkappaB (Inhibitor of kappaB). Subsequently, freeNF-kappaB dimers enter the nucleus and regulate the transcription of a varietyof target genes involved in cell proliferation and differentiation, apoptosis,and inflammation, etc. The IKK complex consists of 2 highly homologouskinase subunits, IKKalpha and IKKbeta, and a nonenzymatic regulatorycomponent, IKKgamma/NEMO. The relative contributions of IKKalpha and IKKbeta tothe signaling complex vary according to the requirements of the cell. IKKbetaplays a predominant role in immune responses, while IKKalpha alone appearsto be sufficient for at least some developmental systems. Recently,IKK/NF-kappaB signaling pathway was studied as therapeutic targets incancer.
