This antibody recognizes a determinant topographically related to terminalN-acetyl-D-galactosamine in blood group A specific trisacharride. Haemagglutinationactivity is inhibited by D-GalNac. The A antigen is widely distributed in the erythrocytescells and tissues and body fluids of A positive individuals. The reactive group GalNAca1-Ser(or Thr) is exposed in sialoglycoproteins of individuals with Tn syndrome irrespective oftheir A antigen status. The antibody HE-24 distinguishes blood group A1B from A2B. Thespecifity of the antibody was verified on > 1000 samples of blood. Species: Human. Others not tested.
