Ath29 is confirmed to be a major atherosclerosis susceptibility locus affecting both early and advanced lesion formation in mice, and Rcn2 is identified as a novel regulator of cytokine expression.
RCAN2 (zeige RCAN2 ELISA Kits) was highly expressed in scattered neurons, in both the nucleus and the cytoplasm. RCAN2 (zeige RCAN2 ELISA Kits) is the only member of the RCAN family that was detected in glial cells.
Confirmed is the existence of several ERC-55 splicing variants including ERC-55-C localized in the cytosol in association with the cytoskeleton.
RCN2 is implicated in idiopathic absence epilepsy.
The protein encoded by this gene is a calcium-binding protein located in the lumen of the ER. The protein contains six conserved regions with similarity to a high affinity Ca(+2)-binding motif, the EF-hand. This gene maps to the same region as type 4 Bardet-Biedl syndrome, suggesting a possible causative role for this gene in the disorder. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
